It wasn't a wildlife image so I probably shouldn't be posting this here but I'm dead chuffed and wanted to tell my friends on WAB.

I've been submitting images to Photographers Direct for about 18 months now. They put them into a database that picture buyers can search. If a buyer wants one of your pics they can contact you and negotiate a fee, 20% of which goes to PD in commission.

Congratulations Dave. . . That is a huge positive step. The photo is great too. It is one thing to produce a good image but it is a real buzz to have someone else like it and even more so if they pay money for it. Well done.

Just a suggestion for more sales. I sell a few through a local cafe. Give them a selection and change those that don't sell within a few months. They don't take a commission as they are happy to get free wall decoration. Sales don't come anywhere close to expenses but it's always nice to know that somebody likes your work, enough to pay for it.
Like you, I find that seascapes and boats sell better than wildlife.
Anyway, well done. |

great pic I get a real sense of pleasure when my colleagues and family etc wow and enthuse over my pics, I can't imagine what it would feel like to have someone part with their cash for one

Seriously, I don't mind at all Doug. It was £50 which, after PD's 20% leaves me with £40. Not enough to retire on, but I'm not complaining. As people have pointed out the buzz from someone liking it enough to pay for it is worth every bit as much as the cash.

congratulations dave,i know how you feel i felt like that a few years ago when i sold three oil paintings to the same buyer,lets hope you sell lots more, good luck.by the way fabulas photoegraph no wonder you sold it. |
