| | | FAO Bigbill... Okay Bill....just for you
Had some very helpful tips and comments from Julie and Nick...thanks, hug and xxx to you two
Something went a bit wrong with my macro setting I think....going to try again when and if it stops raining! Also as was mentioned take the twigs out of the way next time!
Any other advice - much appreciated. Have used slr's in the past but not digital and always took slide pics.

As well as removing the branch I'd also remove the broken flower stems or at least get them down below the leaves and out of view. I'd try and get the camera down so its looking into the flower at flower level and get the flower to fill at least 1/3 of the frame them using the your depth of field I'd get the background out of focus.
Take your time and use the depth of field preview button on the camera. You'll probably have a very slow shutter speed so make sure the camera is on a solid base. I know you said you dont have a bean bag but all it takes is a bag of died peas or rice to support the camera.
Most importantly of all have fun.
Regards
SteveHL

| | | Re: FAO Bigbill... I love the first one in particular I think you have a really good eye, I love the way the sweeping curve of the fenceling and field edge is mirrored by the strip of trees on the hillside beyond. You should bear that point in mind I'll bet its stunning on a sunny day when the autumn colours are up.... |

| | | Re: FAO Bigbill... Thank you Don't know why i didn't think of it before but I can make a beanbag! and yes - I think with the other setting I should be able to get in closer. And Gill I will bear that in mind! Yes it is beautiful in autumn - though i'll be in another part of the country come this autumn
Lots to think about for the next ones - thank you and any other helpful comments will be most welcome!

| | | Re: FAO Bigbill... Hello Tufftie sorry for the delay but had Pc probs got new setup and the manufactors had not loaded all files to load and run the new Pc so been without one for 2 dayts it was terrible the withdrawel symptons was bad.
The landscape shot I really like you have a good eye for a photo good lead in lines with the fence depth of field is good as well, well done with that one.
As to the violet in the woods as already mentioned the branch is a spoiler and there is quite a bit of space around the flower head try and get a bit closer and to isolate them from the background, try using a setting of about F5.6 and this should throw the background out of focus, the pic of the flower is sharop so well done.
Nice pics told you it was`nt that bad the opnly way to learn is to put pics up for criticism and if you take the advice onboard you can only learn.
Well done on the images so far

| | | Re: FAO Bigbill... Thank you big bill There was no need to apologise - didn't realise there was a time limit to replying to a thread?! Glad you've got your pc sorted out now.
Okay - if the flowers are still there i'll give it another go during the week....assuming it stops raining! Might try and get one of Hobbit, the squirrel too
