Firstly you upload the image. If it's just to appear in a forum thread, then go to the Gallery link, click on image archives and load the image into the forum Gallery. These are not moderated, so are available immediately.
When it's loaded, look at the image and copy the code that appears in the Forum Code box. When you create your post, place your cursor where you want the image to appear, right click and choose paste. The image will now appear.

You have probably sorted things out by now. But if you still have problems, I found that I had the same trouble. Right click on the code box at the bottom of your image and click Select All before Copy. Took me some time to figure it out.

That's a good point Geoff. I should have expanded my reply to include that.
One of the major problems I find when users have failed to load images in threads is that part of the code is missing.
Doing it as Geoff said, is the best way to ensure nothing is missing then you get it right.
