BWC photographic days

Hello all!

Has anyone here been on one of the photographic days at the British Wildlife Centre? If so was it worth it?

Most kind!
Rich

Re: BWC photographic days

Hiya

A friend and I went on a photographic day at the BWC last summer. We certainly enjoyed it, it was lovely to get into the enclosures with the foxes and the Otters..... we went in the enclosures with the foxes, Otters, wild cat the keeper brought out a buzzard, barn owl and Hedgehog, the keepers also encouraged all the other animals such as the Badgers and Stoats etc to come out, the animals were great so long as you didn't jump around too much you could certainly get some great shots, the keepers we're really helpful but kept out the way enough for you to be able to enjoy the experience. I got some fabulous pictures and it really boosted my confidence to come away with some shots that look as good as any you see in magazines.

If your unsure about doing a photographic day I'd also recommend just a straight visit, I've been with my hubby, son and friend on a normal Saturday visit and we all came away with some great photos and had a good day, the enclosures are where possible quiet low to enable good photography.

hope this all helps

Re: BWC photographic days

I certainly fancy this.
Brian, are there any travel lodges or similar nearby? I'll have to make it a two day job so would need some cheap overnight accommodation.

Thanks for the replies people!

I went there for a regular day last summer and enjoyed it.
Sounds like the photo day is worth it, will probably book one up for the spring!

Good stuff!!

Hi,
Try these............

Travelodge - Gatwick Airport hotel information

or

Crawley Bed and Breakfast, Cheap Hotel and Guest House Accommodation

Crawley is close and is quite a big town also near by is East Grimstead.

Google Maps

One of the best times to go is May when Fox cubs and Scottish Wildcat Kittens are out and about.

Re: Hotels

Unfortunately the centre is a little off the beaten path. The local hotels that are within a stones throw are circa £170 a night, but they're more along the lines of a luxury rural retreat. The closest affordable hotel I can think of would be the Europa Hotel, Maidenbower, which would be about £65 per night for a double room with a breakfast meal; this would be a 15-20 minute amble along the local roads by car to the Wildlife Centre.

Hope that helps a little.

graham If I'm still down here (i'm in bucks at present but looking at moving to the north east to be with my fiancee) then you would be welcome to overnight at mine - its a day trip from here which would also open up possibilities of going to living rainforest, english school of falconry (shuttleworth), or other places of interest on the other day.

one point to note is that the photo days are midweek only which can be tricky to arrange for those with jobs (like me) - on the other hand I have flexi time so i should be able to arrange summat given sufficient notice.

contact me by pm or email if you want to take this up.

That's very good of your Pete. I'll have a word with Linda to see when the best time would be for us.

Re: BWC photographic days

Thank you all for the info, this will be on my must do list later in the year.
I'd definitely ring first! I'm not going all that way to be disappointed.

Re: BWC photographic days

Hi,
I was there last June but not on an organised event but had a great time. The people there were very good in explaning things and I was able to wander around going back to places whenever. My wife came as well and she enjoyed it to and the picnic after. Its a pity we live in Shropshire else I would go often.
