| | | Tamron 200-500mm lens
on Sunday,we went to Keyhaven Salt marsh near Southampton waters,Hampshire,and i got to try out the tamron 200-500mm lens.With my Nikon D200 body,and making good use of my tripod.there was a very obliging
little egret. haven set the camera to 800asa and a shutter speed 1/800 sec-f16.I found both the focusing and the zoom easy to use,and after printing off an A3 print.I am greatly impressed by this lens, at the fl/750mm,can`t wait to go out and get some more. |

Upload the shot and let us see  Always nice to hear when someones happy with a new bit of gear, theres nothing worse than forking out a lot of money and then being disappointed.Great stuff!

Great pics and I'm pleased you like your lens.
IMHO, the Tammy 200-500 is one of the best bang-for-bucks lenses on the market today. Had mine over 2 years now and can't fault it. you don't see many of these on the s/h market.
Works great with the Manfrotto 393 tripod head too, at least I think so, see Accessories

Interesting thread. I was wandering about this lens for trips abroad as its more compact than the bigma and a lot smaller than my 500 prime!

Hi Guys,
What sort of price do these come in at, I was thinking about a canon 100-400mm is usm. But to get a 500mm could be better if the money is right.

I'd like to see what the lens could do when wide open. Whilst the shot shown is excellent, it was taken @ F16.0. I'd be interested to see how it performed @ F6.3. |

If you click on the ' i' button the photo info will be shown for all photos. I post good and bad, it's not a showcase. Exif is present on most pics and you will see that most are taken around f6.3 - f8 or f9. The sweet spot of this lens is around f10ish given enough light.
In all honesty, in over 2 years, I have never, ever, had the opportunity to shoot with the Tammy at f16 at 1/800th of a second, even at 800asa !! I can't actually remember 1/800th..............

Hi Guys,
Just to hijack this thread slightly, being a new boy I hope I can get away with it!
I was looking at a canon 100-400mm is usm lens, but reading about this tamron 200-500mm for roughly the same money, would I better looking at the tamron rather than the canon?

if you don't really need the extra 100mm then I'd go for the Canon with it's IS and USM which the Tamron hasn't got.

damn Ive been trying to decide between the sigma 150-500 and the 'bigma' sigma 50-500mm and now theres also this Tamron 200-500mm option. Anyone care to help? lol
Ill be using it on a pentax k20d (probably - Im yet to buy it) and I intened to just use the one lens for wildlife - until I can afford a decent macro lens too
