Idiots guides?

Are there any readable idiots guides to photography out there (or dvd's - i seem to take things in better when i can hear them too). I know there's a thread on this below that suggested trial, error and lots of practice but this seems to assume you're off the start marker, err i'm not yet. I've looked at the instruction booklet and the mental barriers have gone straight up.

Re: Idiots guides?

Re: Idiots guides?

The Jan 2008 Digital Camera mag has a "digital slr handbook" as an extra which explains all the basics in simple terms for beginners. Well worth trying to find a copy.

Re: Idiots guides?

I have just bought a dvd called Go Wild with your camera from Go Wild TV - The complete guide to wildlife photography for the digital age and can highly recommend it.It covers photography of birds mammals and insects and explains things in a very uncomplicated manner.

Re: Idiots guides?

Get Bryan Peterson's 'Understanding Exposure'. Just do it. It doesn't sound like the most exciting read in the world, it explains everything you need to know with loads of pictures and examples and covers everything from the basics up. It's an excellent grounding and I've found it one of the most useful beginner books I've bought.
