| | Converters and telephoto zooms Hi everyone, I have a canon EOS 20D, Canon 100-400L IS and a 1.4 canon converter, has any one else got the same kit/ had experience of this kit?
I find manual focus with the converter quite difficult, the focus ring is fairly stiff (? because usually I can use autofocus) and as a result find that usin manual focus with ther conveter whilst the shots are "sharp" the item I intend to focus on is slightly out as it were. This leads on to m y second point, in a previous forum it was suggested that when using the converter it was possible to tape over the first three pins and this would fool the camera into not sensing the converter and as such it would then provide auto focus. Oh no, not mine! No foolin' this 20D it will not autofocus. Has anyone got any views or comments. I would also like to know if I can get this adaption to work if it would have any deleterious effect on the camera circuitry. Jon

Jon | What TC is it? If it's a Canon I believe you have to tape over the last 3 pins, not the first 3 although I guess is depends how you view them. I think there's a group of 8+3 pins, and it's the group of 3 that needs taping. |

| | | Re: Converters and telephoto zooms The lens/combination will autofocus if you get the right contacts and a google search will certainly find some photos of the modification. Put the tape onto the x1.4tc so that the 100-400 will still function normally without the extender. |

I will now try a google search. Jon
