I have seen the 22 deg defraction circle and moon associated circles etc. reasonable often - 2 or 3 times a year maybe.
It's just like shooting stars (and many other things) - if you don't look for them you may never see them.
I have not yet witnessed the "green flash" though

I've seen halos and sun dogs but I've never seen the green flash either.

I've seen a huge halo around the moon several years ago in poland on a very cold and clear night. I tried to take a pic of it on my film camera I had at the time but I couldnt fit it all in the frame. It was amaizing to see a bright full moon the the centre of a huge ring of light. No doubt refraction through the ice crystals. |
