Wildlife photographs

This may seem a really naive question and I am not sure this is right forum to ask it....

Some of you may know that I am a bit of a "point and click" person, but occasionally I manage to take some nice photos (many of which I have uploaded in the WAB gallery). To my surprise, I have been approached by 2 newspapers in the US to use my photos in their publications. For the first one, I said that if they provide a credit to my web site, they could use it free of charge (it was a lousy photo in my opinion - maybe it just had rarity value!). The second has now asked to purchase the rights to print it in their newspaper (did not say exactly which rights).

You guys have some REALLY AMAZING photos in the gallery and I am sure that many of you sell your photos. Can any of you suggest what I should do - let them have it free of charge on a one-off basis? If not, do you have any idea what the going rate is for newspaper publication?

Hi Jennyb,I always say keep the copyright hire out the image,a lot of competitions used to take the copyright if you entered,Amateur Photography magazine fought for a better deal but there are still poachers out there someone on this site was actually billed by someone who pinched his pictures!
