| | | What camera? As I wish to take my photography seriously, I wish to consider larger, better cameras... Than just a digital... But the problem is... I need suggestions... What should I get that has a reasonable price... But still takes amazing photos?
Thanks x |

Thanks x | Tanzi, welcome to WAB.
I think you are referring to a DSLR when you say larger, better; though I'm not sure what you mean by "...than just a digital". There is a whole range of cameras out there. It just depends on how much you are prepared to spend, so an idea of budget would be helpful. It would also be helpful if you tell us what you already have, or your experience level.
The "amazing photos" will be down to you.

Welcome to WAB
A very similar question was posted earlier today and my answer's the same -
I don't wish to appear unhelpful but similar questions have been raised many times before and instead of having all the same advice repeated again I'd suggest you start by using the site's search facility and perhaps try under 'which camera' and 'which lens'. This should lead you to numerous helpful threads, though you'll find much conflicting advice depending on whether the poster is a user of Canon, Nikon or another brand.

There are lots of threads that discuss this question. Take some time to look at them and they will guide you in the right direction. . . It sounds like you will be after a DSLR so that may be a good place to start. . . . A very warm welcome to the site, by the way.

| | | Re: What camera? Just a quick point for you to consider .. Fantastic pictures do not always go along with high priced cameras and mega fast large lenses although it may help .. I have taken prize winning photos with just a point and shoot nikon finepix.
I now also use a Pentax K10d or the Pentax ist* and I am very happy with the quality and value for money .. the only drawback is pentax do not do a huge amount of lenses. But..... Sigma lenses are very good and reasonably priced and they make the pentax fittings.
Anyone can take pictures but there are far less people able to take good pictures.
How serious did you want ??
There are very good camera and lens kits out there for around £5000 plus ..
I suggest you look at places like photosig, photonet find the quality of photo you wish to achieve and check the gear these guys are using..
The other thing you have to remember is that many excellent pictures are ruined in post production in photoshop through over sharpening, oversaturating and being too genorous with filters etc..
This also works the other way, there are many bad photos that have been repaired and enhanced very well by more adept users of photoshop.
I wish you luck in your search and hope I have given you food for thought. |

| | | Re: What camera? In terms of lens selections, I think you should go for Nikon/Canon if you want to pursue wildlife photography. For both you can get reasonably priced third party lenses by Tamron/Sigma or their own budget lenses which are ideal for starting out.
I would consider the Canon 400D (which may soon be 450D? think a new model may be announced in feb) or D40/D40x. Best best is to go to a store and handle both to see which you prefer.
