Photo competition rules

Can someone give me an idea what the rules are on entering the same photo in multiple competitions? Is it allowed? Or does entering a competition give the holders rights to the photo. I imagine there are some differences between each competition but what ius generally the case?

Hi

usually depends on the rules.Some I've seen state that the photo must not have been published before.
Also some state that you give them permission to publish the winning photos free for advertising.
Check the rules as some have been known to keep copyright of winning images , which you should never allow unless the prize is worth it of course.

I draw your attention to a topic 6 threads down on this forum, re; Practical Photography photo/caption competition, post #4 (and replies). It illustrates just how easy it is to overlook competition rules which would invalidate an entry.
