Dioptic Adjustment Lens

Anybody had any experience of Dioptic Adjustment lens - I'm referring here for a Canon camera (40D)
Do they work are they any good?

Not quite sure If I've understood you correctly,as it's the camera that has the adjustment. Works perfectly well on my 20D. I need it as my close up vision is poor. I can only assume it should work just as well with the 40D.

Re: Dioptic Adjustment Lens

I'm with you Graham. Not sure what you mean. The dioptric is the adjustment that can be made to the viewfinder in order to suit your own personal eye focus. Works great on ny 20D and my 1D MK3..

Re: Dioptic Adjustment Lens

If we are referring to the viewfinder adjustment, I wear glasses and have found it a godsend on both my 30D and FZ30. I used to have my glasses on a cord but ended up nearly strangling myself between that and the camera strap around my neck.

Re: Dioptic Adjustment Lens

To clarify - what the dioptre adjustment does is to take what you see as 'in focus' and relate that to what the camera knows is 'in focus'. It will then adjust your focussing to the real world! The lens is irrelevent.

On old cameras, you would get your optician to test your eyes and prescribe a lens which you would then fit into the camera. Nowadays, the camera cuts out the middle-man!

Only problem on some cameras (with small bodies and controls close together) is that it's possible to change the dioptre reading accidentally ...... worth checking on a regular basis - or whenever your takes are largely out of focus ......

I think all DSLR cameras have this adjustment. I have a Sony Alpha and used the adjustment, which is situated under the rubber eye piece as I need glasses for close up work.

Not only small bodied ones either, I'm always having to correct mine. My problem is that the camera is a pretty tight fit in the bag, and I catch the small wheel when putting the camera back in or I'm just an old clumsy so and so!
