I like the composition for the mallard but her head is in shadow. It might have been better to spot meter from the bird but this would very likely have led to over-exposure of the surrounding foliage. I little bit of work in a photo editor to brighten the head might work.
That's a classic pose from the squirrel and I like the two upright stems in the foreground that act as a natural frame. The two diagonal grass blades across the nose and ear are very unfortunate. Again, you could possibly remove them with some very careful work in an image editor. Also I think this shot might have worked better in the portrait (upright) format.
The robin is my favourite of the three. Nice strong diagonals, both in the pattern of the bricks and also in the bird, which make for a very dynamic image. The traditional advice for this shot would be to get lower with the camera so that we are at eye level with the subject. However in this case that would have detracted from the patterns in the brick work and may possibly have introduced other unwanted elements in the background. I like this shot just fine the way it is.

| | | Re: A few more images... I hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of having a play with the squirrel shot. It's not perfect, especially on his face, but how's this...?

| | | Re: A few more images... Yep Portrait def works better, I have Photoshop CS2 at work, however its early days with regards to me using it - I can clone and use the plaster tool but thats as far as it goes at the mo.
Did you use a graphics pad for the face?
Thanks for the advice. |
