| | | Re: How Did You Learn Photography? started borrowing my dad's olympus (OM4Ti) about ten or eleven years ago, then treated myself to an OM1. have since expanded my olympus system to include a DSLR, and have treated myself to a hasselblad too. |

| | | Re: How Did You Learn Photography? I don't know how to use a camera well. My photos are very hit and miss(usually miss).
When you are talking about ISO, aperture etc I haven't got a clue what you are talking about.
I have a finepix S5500 and that is too complicated for me.
I need to go on a photography course as I am sooo disappointed with so many of my photos. Mind you there are some I am delighted with too, but they are flukes.
At least I can enjoy looking at other peoples photos in the Gallery (with envy). |

| | | Re: How Did You Learn Photography? I bought a very cheap (by today's standards) digital camera seven years ago and snapped away, making lots of mistakes but also making a note of the shutter speeds etc., when I got a result I liked (this is easier now you can view your EXIF data with programs like adobe bridge). As I demanded more from my photos, I upgraded until I finally took the leap to DSLR last year.
I have to say that the photographers on WAB have been a huge help to me, and I would also recommend subscribing to Digital Camera Magazine.

Camera clubs exist in most parts of the country, but as I don't know where you live, it's hard to make any suggestions. Google the subject for your area. Camera clubs cater from total beginners to those with many years of experience. It may seem daunting at first, but remember: we all had to start somewhere.

| | | Re: How Did You Learn Photography? I went down the formal route of 3 yrs education as photography was my intended proffesion. But the great thing about photography is that it is a great hobby / pastime/ or job which needs no formal training. Books and mags are great to pick up tips and tricks. Camera clubs are great because you can actualy get someone more experienced to show you whats what hands on. you can find camrea clubs in most areas on Camera Clubs in the UK - Find your nearest camera club using just your post code! Happy shooting WW |

| | | Re: How Did You Learn Photography? I stared with a Zenith B, moved onto Minolta SRT303 and then a X500 (this ended up in a pond!) and X700. I moved onto AF with a Canon EOS 10, then I went digital with an EOS 300D then my son pinched it so I got a 20D.
Learnt most of what I know through reading, the way I seemed to remember the priciples was by likening light to water going through a pipe with a view to filling a container.
Correct exposure = full bucket
Volume going through pipe depends on width of pipe = aperture
Time to fill = shutter speed
I don't know if that stikes a chord but it made sense to me at the time!
