| | | Re: Snowy Owl piccy Excellent photo Cazzie .... a very powerful and mean looking owl.
I think the crop really works, focusing in on those eyes.

| | | Re: Snowy Owl Photograph Brilliant picture well done, I like close up photos of the birds faces and I know how difficult they are to take!
A while ago I accidentally came across the Raptor Centre in Chichester and popped in and did not leave for about 4 hours it was wonderful and we got to hold the birds and fly them. The facts they told us were amazing.
Recently we also went to the Raptor Centre in Ringwood and again took loads of photos. I must admit the wire cages around 80% of the birds can be very annoying when you want to photograph the birds especially if you have a camera like mine without a huge zoom! Also I did get doubts about the small amount of room that such big birds had to fly around in and felt that surely they could have had much larger cages if they are to be kept captive. They hold special photography days at quite a reasonable price where they take the birds out into the New Forest to fly and be photographed so taking part in a day like that would give the birds a treat so maybe I will do that some time. |

Cropping a photo means cutting some off from around the edges to improve the composition or to focus attention tightly onto the main subject.
Cazzie's original photo would have been a bit bigger and shown a bit more of the owl, possibly even some background. By cutting these bits off the photo has lots more impact.
