| | | Re: Question for fz30/50 users.... Thanks Matt, and thanks again for that pic As it`ll mean not having to carry the extra lenses around etc i`m sure my arthritic knees will enjoy it as much as I will ....even carrying a smallish camera bag around in winter can cause me a fair bit of pain at times,so any reduction in the gear I need to carry is a huge bonus.

| | | Re: Question for fz30/50 users.... Well, i`ve had the fz50 since Wednesday.Must say i`m pretty impressed, both in the better functionality and image quality compared to my old fz20.
As far as noise goes, up to 400 iso its pretty manageable,as the noise is even across the image, making it easier to smooth out without reducing detail. At 800iso images are pretty acceptable to me provided theyre not resized too big.
I havent had much chance to shoot any wildlife due to the weather but there are a couple of 800iso hedgehog shots in my Gallery which turned out ok considering the high iso. They were hastily processed too, so with a bit more time better results would have been possible.
The EZ zoom feature is exactly what I was after, in fact, the images at 5mp appear a bit sharper than my fz20 5mp images, havent noticed any colour fringing either at long zoom lengths/low F numbers.Performance using the 5mp EZ zoom is better than the addition of a tcon to my eyes.....got this shot a short while ago when a Magpie came down to sneak a nibble at the leftover hedgehog food from last night - shot with a tripod, through double glazing at 5mp, image size reduced to half and this crop taken from the newly resized image then otherwise untouched.
F.5.6
iso100
1/30th sec
full zoom at 5mp(17.1x) - 598mm equivalent
All in camera settings set to low
Better than I would have got with my Raynox tcon and fz20 so pretty pleased with my new toy

| | | Re: Question for fz30/50 users.... good stuff Mark, I'm glad you like it. There's certainly no problem with the sharpness of the FZ lenses.

| | | Re: Question for fz30/50 users.... Thanks Matt. I may be wrong, but after comparing 5mp images between the 20 and 50 I`d say the 50`s lens is an improvement on the fz20`s,not by a great amount but noticeable to my eyes.

Mark H | Can someone explain this noise malarky as i still dont get it? Is it what has made the magpie jaggedy all around the edge?...

| | | Re: Question for fz30/50 users.... Its due to the image being shrunk to fit the thread Dan.It does have a slightly jagged edge along the white belly when the pics full size though.Hadnt noticed it until you mentioned it, its just due to slight oversharpening on my part.
