It is always worth sending pics off to things like this, I have only ever sent in two pictures to the BBC wildlife mag on the one month and both got on the commended list - So if I can do it anyanyone can! It did serve a purpose as well - the better half afterwards allowed me to buy a bigger lense. Since then I haven't entered any more - but don't tell her

Yeah i have been submiting to the bbc magazine these past few months and been highly comended or commended for most of the photos i submit. its a great confience boost, and always makes my gran proud of me! I also just came second in the Nikon / Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust Photographer of the Year competition at Martin Mere.

If you dont enter you cant win! And even if you dont win / get published etc then the taking part is still exciting!

I don't submit too many though as doing so, basically gives the bbc (or whoever) royalty free use, which could be an issue if i try and sell my images at a later date - greeting card companies tend to like exclusive contracts, but when they pay £200 upwards i dont mind; but if the bbc have got the image i cant revoke the permission!
