I don't see why "straight " photography can not be seen as artistic , especially if it evokes an emotional response. There has been tension with traditional art ever since photography got started and both art forms have benefited by responding to this ( impressionists look as though they are deliberately trying not to be photographic) . As soon as you start using differential focus you can be "accused " of being artistic .
Trying to be arty is to ask for everyone to reach for their bull detectors ...the final test?

So how do we feel about bromoils and the tinting which was done to B&W images during the 40s and 50s. Did this add anything to the photographs? Is a bromoil the equal to an artists oil painting?
