| | | A couple of new pics Yes, me again! You must be getting sick of me by now
One word......WOW!! The Brown Hawkers at my local lake were unbelievably obliging today, posing masterfully! Just see for yourself:
These are my two favourites of the day. Unfortunately, there was no sign of the different species of Dragonfly that I spotted yesterday nor the Demoiselle. I did spot a Beautiful Tortoiseshell Butterfly in my back garden though this morning:
I'm really pleased with the pics I did get and I think they are improving slightly but would like to hear what you guys think.
One of my friends was astounded to hear that I don't use a tripod after seeing some of my pics but I didn't think that was a big deal with using a compact. One thing I have been thinking about is getting a DSLR; not just yet but the cogs are in motion, so to speak.
Cheers

| | | Re: A couple of new pics Some fantastic photos, I especially like the colours of the tortoiseshell! It must be much better weather up north, your photos are in glorious sunshine and all I see outside is grey skies and drizzle for the last three days! |

| | | Re: A couple of new pics Excellent work once again Simon, I never tire of seeing good Dragonfly images & its always good to see someone enjoying Dragonflies with so much enthusiasm.
Did you notice that the female has the lower part of her front leg missing? you see this quite a bit with older Dragonflies, its quite common for them to have bits missing!
Steve.

Thanks for the comments guys, I almost didn't get these pics. I was just setting off home when I noticed one land. My stalking has got alot better, they almost didn't mind me being there at all today. With the above pics the camera must have been about 4 inches away from the dragonfly (no zoom) so i must be doing something right
Mark, as you say the exposure is much better which I'm really happy with.
Steve, yes I did notice part of it's front leg was missing. I felt a little sorry for it
Also, if you haven't already noticed, on the first photo there is a fly having a little rest on one of it's wings (much easier to spot on the full sized image). I love it when you see little details like this that you didn't notice at the time. I took a photo of a frog in our pond and then last week, a good few months after taking the photo, I notice another frog peeping it's head out of the water right next to it |

| | | Re: A couple of new pics You certainly are doing a lot right as these are very good photos. It seems that practice makes perfect. Well done and keep up the good work.

| | | Re: A couple of new pics Another set of great images. Definitely improving all the time. Keep on posting as I for one won't get tired of viewing them, that Tortoiseshell is excellent and it's good to see you are obviously enjoying it, and that to me is a very important part of the process.
