| | | Re: Where to photgraph red squirrels good locations i have found include formby point in lancashire ( good all year but best opportunities in term time when horrible screaming brats arent frightening the squiz) , and the bird feeding area at RSPB loch garten in speyside
there is also a place called squirells pantry in cumbria which is supposed to be okay tho i've not been there personally.
there are also captive red squirells at the british wildlife centre at lingfield in surrrey who are vey easy to photo in a natural looking setting.

| | | Re: Where to photgraph red squirrels Yes, Formby is the best place to get close to red squirrels in my opinion. You could also try Brownsea Island near Poole or Wallington National Trust, Northumberland.
Early in the year is supposed to be the best time to see them due to their little minds being occupied with things other than photographers!

| | | Re: Where to photgraph red squirrels 2 Years ago I went to Basenthwaite lake (not sure of spelling) in the Lake District
there is a viewing point for the Ospreys which also has feeders for woodland birds
which attracts lots of red squirrels within 20ft, 1st time I have ever seen them
and had no camera at the time! |

| | | Re: Where to photgraph red squirrels Another thumbs up for Formby point from me. i went one sunday, got there about 10am and the squigs were already tap dancing for us, and they played out til about 5pm.
The kids werent so much a problem but stupid dog owners. The squiggles don't realise the dogs are on a lead and scarper at the sight of a k9 menance.
The main problem i had was as its a wood, the lighting isnt very good and i struggled at f5.6. got a few good uns though: Red Squirrels - a photoset on Flickr |

| | | Re: Where to photgraph red squirrels Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour is the place to go if you are in the South, boats leave every half hour from Poole seafront.

| | | Where to photgraph red squirrels Thanks to all who responded - seems like there are a good number of places to try. I am in Essex but didn't bother to mention this as I knew I would have to travel some disance. Good excuse for a weekend away!
Thanks again.
