Re: slide scanners

Amateur photographer recommend the minolta range - but that depends on how you feel about Sony support!

I take it that Sony support is not good then!

Re: slide scanners

I have no idea - but they're in charge now. I've just bought a Minolta 5D, knowing full well that support would be in Sony's hands, and I'm not too concerned. It's just some people may be wary of buying into what is now a defunct brand name.

Re: slide scanners

Okay thanks I will check them out. I'm not bothered if a brand is defunct but i do need a good product. I have approx 8000 slides, most of which I need to scan. Wish me luck!

Re: slide scanners

Have used Minolta's before - Dimage scan etc, the ones I used weren't to accurate with the colours - be prepared for some photoshop work! I'd go for a Nikon Coolscan if you can afford it. Haven't tried the Canon though.

Re: slide scanners

I've used the Polarious Sprint scans - up to A3 at 300dpi - for a couple of years and love it. Now ive digital mine is for sale if you are interest (sorry cheeky plug )

The Sprintscans are lovely through - I've had no complaints from art directors or photo libraries anyway

Question Re: slide scanners

Thanks for the advice. I have been doing some research (ie: going around in circles on the internet) and I keep coming back to the Nikon LS50. I'm gonna have to make a decision soon!

Re: slide scanners

Might be better to do what I'm currently doing, going digital! I can understand though if you've a large slide collection that needs scanning in, and you haven't access to somebody elses scanner (which I have).

For the price of a good scanner, you can get a reasonable digital cam.

Cool Re: slide scanners

Thanks to everybody for your advice on purchasing a new scanner. I have bitten the bullet (after going around in circles on the internet looking at reviews) and purchased a Nikon Coolscan V ED.

I ordered it on Tuesday and it arrived at 9am on the Wednesday, I was well impressed with the company I ordered it from after being let down by one of their rivals.. (My father-in-law ordered a new camera from the same company yesterday and that turned up today).

Have scanned 50 slides/images and they are looking good, 7500 to go.......................
