| | Photography Gear I'm curious to know what camera(s) people own.
Do distant wildlife photographers have any preferences or recommendations for good a compact digital camera?
Tinkerbell's landscapes of Scotland look particularly good. Are they taken using a standard digital camera?
For the record I have a bulky old Olympus C1000L. Its top resolution is 0.8 megapixels! Quite primative, but it has done the job fine using it around the house. I'm thinking about changing it to something that I can take with me on walks. Also something for less than £150. Any suggestions? |

| | For me my Casio Exilim is perfect. It is discreet, gives me 4 mega pixels and means I can take it everywhere as it is slim and will perform under any condition. It has a 'Best shot' facility so that I can choose the environment and the camera adjusts all of the aperture timings, flashes etc to suit such environment. With a suit on you would never know I am wearing it so I never leave home without it. For web pictures 4 mega pixels is more than enough. It has a docking station with recharging facility, so every night I dock it and it is freah for another bout of photography. I have to set the resolutions low for most sites to accomodate my pics. The zoom is good but requires a steady hand so a 10 pound sterling tripod also helps. I got one from Dixons and it does the job and is again discreet but can sit at about 5 foot when extended. I hope this helps. By the way look at www.ebay.co.uk for examples. By the way Tinkerbell has a compact 4 megapixel camera |

| | We've been working on a facility that can display camera info (where available) with each of the pictures in the Gallery. It is uploaded by digital cameras automatically and I've just switched it on so you should now be able to see the make and model details, together with lots of other info - http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/ga...hp?i=1635&c=11
Hope this helps
Stuart

i have used an old pentax SLR for many years (as well as Nikon and Minolta)
The last 2 years i have gone digital my favourite is my minolta DIMAGE x20 a very pocketable camera ,3x optical 4xdigital and a very good close focus, video capable
The other is a minolta DimageZ1 an slr type x10 optical 4x digital again with a close focus
this is now in mk3 5 megapixel form (mine is only 3) look at the lcd displays/view finders in dark and light conditions
Ifind both very useful and versatile both put very good pictures on my monitor, but you really need at least 5 megapixels if you need big prints |

| | The photos in my Gallery are taken with an Olympus 750UZ and Tcon 1.7
However, from now on I will be using a new camera, the Canon 20D and 100-400 IS lens. |

| | | I've been using a Canon 10D for the last couple of years and have been very impressed with it. 100% reliable and it regularly produces some outstanding pictures.
I don't think you'll regret buyign your new 20D should obviously, but your Olympus 750UZ has also given some superb results.
I'm thinking of getting a new pocket-sized digital for those times when it's just not convenient to trek about with the SLR, so I'd be interested to hear any recommendations from other digi users. |

| | I use two different digital compacts.
For long range & action shots, I use a Nikon coolpix 5700, an excellent 5 million pixel camera with a maximum focal length of 300mm.
For most of my macro work I prefer my Fuji finepix S7000, this camera is superb for insect photography, it has both macro & super macro modes, the ability to switch to manual focus at the flick of a switch & a cable release thread on the shutter release button.
With a maximum image output of 12 million pixels recorded, the images have to be seen to be believed, great detail & colour rendition.
Hopefully one day soon I would like to upgrade to a Nikon D70s c/w 180mm macro lens, just got to wait for the prices to drop ....... dramatically!! |

I primarily bought it for bird photography after failing miserably at digiscoping. I have, however, recently bought a Canon A95 for when I don't want to lug the digi-SLR gear around, and may just try a bit of digiscoping again, now that my other half has a decent scope.
My previous compact digicam was Canon G3, which was a lovely little camera. I wish I had never got rid of it, but the A95 is not a bad little camera.
I will try and upload some photos to the Gallery sometime.

| | I've had a Minolta Dimage7 for about 4 years and been delighted with it. However the urge to spend & upgrade just got me so I've bought a Minolta 5D - I particularly like the anti-shake technology which means you can shoot a couple of stops better than you would expect whilst still handholding - and because the technology is in the camera body it works on all lenses. Since I got the camera I've also been busy on eBay & got a telephoto & macro lens so I expect to be out a lot over the autumn and will look to post a number of pictures here.
