| | | which lens Having just started wildlife photography i have purchased a d200 with a 18-200mm vr lens and a d80 with a 70-300mm vr lens but i find the 70-300 not just powerful enough i am thinking of selling the lens but don't know what to get with out breaking the bank as my piggy bank is almost empty.thought of the sigma 50-500mm.Also been told about teleconvetors.Any advise would help thanks |

| | | Re: which lens The 70-300 is a good lens. you will probably find a tele-converter will give you what you need...
That said I have the 50-500 Sigma and that is a good lens also, although heavy...
Cost wise I would opt for the tele-converter.. If cost not an option then I would go for the Bigma (50-500) BUT try it first as you may not like the weight. |

| | | Re: which lens Hi Bryan, I have a 2X teleconvertor. It's not brilliant. I think the 1.4X is more popular.
I have a Sigma 175-500mm and it's the only way I can afford to get into the long reach market. I always use it with a tripod and it takes good sharp pictures.

| | | Re: which lens I'm a Bigma user, I never use a tripod, mainly a monopod, although I've taken many successful images handheld. It's a weighty lens, but it's well balanced when you use the strap supplied with the tripod collar, which provides a handy handle to take the weight of your neck whilst your walking. If an old so and so like me can handle it, I wouldn't let the weight put you off!
In my humble opinion it's the best lens anywhere near it's price range.
If price is absolutely no object, and you don't need a zoom, then a prime will provide the absolute ultimate in image quality, but be careful, you'll then have nothing to blame for the bad shots! |

| | | Re: which lens I bought a Sigma 50-500mm two weeks ago and I love it.
It is a tad on the heavy side but look at this as a bonus, its built like a tank so it can easily stand the wear & tear of being used out in the field.
It does take a little getting used to but it's a joy to use once you have.
If I had to have only one lens for my DSLR's then this baby is what I would choose. |
