Requirements for gallery

Can someone please tell me or give a link to the requiremnts of photos to get a photo into the Gallery please. I cant see them - but im probaly just being dumb

If you mean max picture size, it's in blue writing on a white background below an orange banner just as you're about to upload...

for the moderated galeries images need to be a minimum of 800 pixes on the shorter side and no more than 500kb in memory size.

beyond that it is somewhat subjective but generally you should avoid fancy frames , and ensure that your shots are well exposed and generally sharp. more leeway is likely to be given on shots of rare species than of common ones that are heavily over represented in the galleries already.

and finally dont forget that if you just want to post an image in a thread then you can use either the unid'd or forum images gallerys which are unmoderated for quality and size.

If you click on Gallery, then upload, there's a large orange banner, which if you click on it, you'll see all of the relevant info.
Basically, the image must be below 500kb in size, with a minimum width of 800 pixels, and a minimum height of 600 pixels. If your doing a landscape type shot, simply swap those two around!
The image must be correctly named, in the form Common Name - Scientific Name. Also copy this into the keyword section, minus the -.
You can load directly into the unidentified Gallery if your not sure of the id. Both the unidentified and Forum Galleries are not moderated so the image is available to link into a forum post immediately.
There you go, you hardly need to read the guidelines now.

People keep saying that but it is 800 wide and 600 high minima. Do it in portrait format and it will be rejected!

thats why i said 800 on the shorter side - ergo the longer side is more than 800
that way a portrait wont be rejected either

Paul is right and I made an error in my post above. I should have said if your doing a portrait style, make it 800 pixels wide and whatever height you wish, so long as it's larger than 600 pixels. The important part is the minimum 800 pixel width, with any image.

But the shorter side can be 600 as long as it is the vertical

true - but it being at least 800 wont hurt anything in either plane.
