Is the aperture the hole in the front that the lens 'sees' through? So the smaller the hole the shallower the DOF?

Maam, the wider the hole the shallower the dof, a photographer will ofter refer to a lens being wide open.
A big aperture refers to the small f numbers on a lens and a small aperture refers to the larger numbers, simple isn't it.

| | | Re: help That is one of the best things about this site. Everybody is so friendly and you can have a joke without umbridge being taken. Have a look at the thread Boddie started today about Saving for a Rainy Day. It had me in fits.

It makes sense about depth of field but although I have been through all the settings P,A,S,M AND THE MANUAL i AM MORE CONFUSED THAN EVER HAHA!
Sorry i am shouting hit caps lock by mistake.Manual confused me even more
I think I know what ISO is that controls shutter speed the highest on my camera is 320 I understand thats the fastest, perhaps I should use that more as sometimes it takes as I sometimes have blurred images must be my age and the shakes Or am i getting confused again ? |

| | | Re: help But digi, digital cameras don't have film. So how is that related to the modern camera. Also my present camera doesn't have a lens with numbers on like my old SLR. Is there a way it should work the same as I was used to? Somehow I have managed a shallow depth of field, see some of my wildflower images, but I don't know how it came to be like that. Anyway enough of this I am hogging Cherrybee's thread.

| | Re: help I have just played with the A as I take it that is aperture cannot see anything about the f setting.I have drive mode image size quality white balance and key function (flash button)which i can change from focus mode to drive mode(colour) or white balance(sensitivity) Then that gets even more complicated cos when I press the flash button I get 3 more settings to chose (af-c) nothing to change,MF seems to be distance 0.1, 0.2 etc
I am never going to understand these I think I will stick to auto and rely on COREL psp X to get them looking as best I can as long as I like it. I just enjoy taking my photos and joining the site was the best thing I ever did its such fun>My own site has had a few hits from my link on here in the last couple of days so whoever it was I hope you liked my site and thankyou for looking |
