Guy | Hi Guy
I did something drastic to combat that when I went to Spain on Boxing day. I bought a 2nd hand laptop off e-bay for around a ton. I took this on holiday and before going there I uploaded my editing programmes. Not only did I transfer my images to the laptop each day (so freeing up my memory card) I actually got to edit quite a few of my images as well.
As a bonus it came with a CD Rom drive so I took a few films with me to watch when i was bored on the night (I was on my own).
I'm not saying you should go out and buy a laptop but there are plenty of storage devices on the market. Get one of these and you can transfer your images from the card at the end of each day.

John | I definetely think that I will get a laptop or a photo downloader as soon as possible, it sounds very useful, but I think I've left it a bit late for the holiday this year. I did buy a few memory cards to try and give me as much space as possible. I also bought a spare battery so I think on this occasion I will just have to check through my images on the camera every evening and be ruthless with which ones I keep and which ones go.
Thanks for your advice,
Guy |

John | I've got an 80GB backup device I take with me, if I'm likely to fill my three CF cards.
It works very well, as well as giving a full colour display that's better than the one on the camera. It's also an MP3, video player and recorder, but I only use it as a backup device.
It's this one in our review centre.: http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/re...uct/390/cat/46 |

| | | Re: 10,000 photos I've been round the clock twice and am back up to 4,669 on my 3rd go around. So very nearly 25,000 since April 2005. Nowhere near glsammy's impressive rate but still over 10,000 per year.
For storage and avoiding filename clashes I have set up a folder structure that looks like this...
Workflow
-> Year
-> Month
-> Day
I load all shots into the relevant day folder, delete all the toot (most of them most days ) then rename the rest using the naming standard of yyyymmdd - 999. I'm sure three digits is enough as although it's possible I'll take more than 1000 in a day it's extremely unlikely that I'll keep anywhere near that number.

| | | Re: 10,000 photos I've clocked up over 17,000 shots on my 400D since Christmas and use a similar workflow for storage to Dave and name each shot with ddmmyynnnn. Storage is slowly becoming an issue, but I'll figure that one out. Most is transferred to a DVD. At this rate I have 3 years before I hit the dreaded 100,000 shutter clicks, but I reckon I'll have bought a second body before then. |

| | | Re: 10,000 photos Haha, that guy in the picture is hilarious!
Imagine if he was robbed - that's a good £50,000 he must be carrying at least...
I was surprised to find I'd shot over 9000 photos in 10 months. Since buying my camera it's been a huge part of my like. I guess it should be if I want to make a living from it.
As for laptops, I'm lucky and own a Macbook which is capable of storing all 8000+ images (many are RAW) however, it does slow down somewhat with its 512MB RAM, hence the 2gigs coming my way... just need to wait for the postal strike to end.
