| | | Which Camera, Which Lens? Hi everyone, I use two cameras. I have a Fuji S3Pro, which I used for nearly all my nature shots last year.I have a small collection of lenses for this camera but no macro.
I also have a Canon EOS-1 Mark II N. I only have a 70-200 lens for this. Unfortunately the Fuji camera has a Nikon mount so I cannot share lenses.
I want to get a really good macro, probably the Sigma 150mm, but which camera should I get it for? Do you think I should get two macros, maybe the Sigma and the Tamron 90mm? I just don't know what to do.
I am use to using the Fuji for nature, but not the Canon. Does anyone on here use this Canon for macro work?
Any help or advice would be very appreciated. Thanks. |

I use EOS 20d's for macro and everything else and they do a grand job.I use Tamron and Sigma macros and they're both excellent.
Me ,personally , I would trade in the Fuji kit for a couple of lenses for the Canon ,but I am biased

| | | Re: Which Camera, Which Lens? I normally use my Canon EOS-1 Mark II N for my bird photography and my Canon 30D and Canon 100mm Macro lens for my macro stuff, but there is nothing wrong with using the Canon EOS-1 Mark II N for Macro. I have to agree with wildlifesnapper, trade the fuji in and if you have enough get the Tamron 90mm and the Sigma 150mm.

I think I am going to get the Sigma 150mm for the canon. |

| | | Re: Which Camera, Which Lens? I have a canon 400d and initially used the canon 60mm macro, this was fantastic, however, I've just bought the canon 100mm macro, reviews are fab, been reading about 3 months before decision. Haven't used it yet as been in work, can't wait for saturday ebay selling it for £309 plus £10 postage. Also get £20 of that with Canon cashback. Great deal.

| | | Re: Which Camera, Which Lens? Good to hear those last two comments praising the Canon 100mm macro. I know many WAB members rave about the Sigma 105 and 150 macros (and have produced some superb results) but the Canon seems to be the favoured lens on some of the photography forums and is the one I've been leaning towards after recommendations from a couple of pros and a semi-pro photographer.
I'd be interested to hear more from you galanthus once you've used the lens and from any other Canon macro lens users.

| | | Re: Which Camera, Which Lens? Will take you up on that, will get snapping on the weekend woo hooo In the meantime I've got a few macros taken with the canon 60mm on my little website so click the link if you want. The 100mm can only be better Seriously tho, am loving canon lenses.

| | | Re: Which Camera, Which Lens? Having given this a lot of thought, I am definitely going to get a macro lens for my Canon. I love Oliie's pics and he swears by the sigma 150mm. If i could get pics like his I would be over the moon! I have discarded the 105mm, but I am still weighing up the canon 100mm..
I suppose a canon lens for a canon camera, but I do love Ollies pics....... |

| | | Re: Which Camera, Which Lens? the Sigma 150 and the Canon 100mm are both excellent lenses capable of taking very clear, sharp images. I was also undecided between these for a while (and the Sigma 105) but went for the 150 because of its greater working distance. This does help when photographing skittish insects such as dragonflies and butterflies.
So the advantage of the sigma 150 would be its greater working distance. The advantage of the Canon 100 would be that it is more hand-holdable. The Sigma does really need to be used with a tripod/monopod to get the best from it. That said, if you intend to do 1:1 macro then you will benefit from a tripod whichever lens you use.
the bottom line is that you can't really go wrong with either of these lenses
