in the short term you could create a thread on here called "what is the latin name?" then post a list of common names , and i'm surethe membership at large will help out - also i generally just use google with the search terms being the comon name and "latin name"

there are a number of Gallery categories and as i mentioned above the unid'd and forum categories are unmoderated so if you just want to share, you can use these to display your images in the forum threads without needing the latin name - this info however is required for the moderated Gallery categories

One excellent source for Scientific names is WAB!
Unless you've got something unique, the correct name and term is already there for you in the Galleries. Open a second Internet page and you can have the Gallery on one side with your other one open on the upload page.
Simply do a search using the common name, and you can copy the title and scientific name from any image and paste it into your upload. That's how I do it anyway!

flickr is great, but if you post over 200 photos the earlier posted photos dissapear until you subscribe to flickr pro
