| | Tamron 90mmDi Macro Hi evey one
I am in a bit of a dilemma, I am thinking of buying th Tamron 90mmDi macro lens, but some people keep informing me that the sigma 105 is better than the Tamron.
I have been looking in camera magazines and have found information saying that the tamron has the edge on image quality?
Has anyone used either lens, I am starting to favour the Tamron? |

| | | Re: Tamron 90mmDi Macro I'm sure you've started a heated debate here I use the Tamron and find it very sharp both in the middle and edges particularly around f4-f9 plusthe lens has fantastic bokeh. Having a slightly shorter focal length than the sigma it doubles up nicely as a portrait lens, which I've found useful for wedding etc. That said the sigma will have the advantage of the extra focal length for wildlife. I've not used the sigma so I cant compare and contrast, but I went for the Tamron because reviews pointed towards a sharper image and I like the look of it which you hate or love Karl. |

| | | Re: Tamron 90mmDi Macro I recently bought a Sigma 150 but also considered the Sigma 105, the Tamron 90 and the Canon 100. In truth, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. They are all high quality lenses capable of taking excellent images.
There's not much to choose between any of them although I chose the 150 because of its greater working distance. If that's not crucial, and if you would like a greater ability to handhold, then take your pick from the Sigma 105 or Tamron 90 (or Canon 100 if you are a Canon user).

I agree with Matt , I don't think you would tell the difference in the images whichever lense you used.
I use the Tamron 90 (pre Di) and I find it very sharp, I also use a Sigma 180 and I find that very sharp.
Personally I would go into a shop and handle the two lenses and see which you prefer.Whichever you pick you wont be dissapointed.

| | | Re: Tamron 90mmDi Macro I heard the Tamron is a superstar in the image stakes but the build is not the best. Like anything though, if you dont chuck it about and show it some care I dont see why that should be an issue.

| | | Re: Tamron 90mmDi Macro I have the sigma 150 which I bought as it has the HSM and I felt that being longer would be an advantage. It also has IMO better build quality over the Tamron but it all depneds how well you treat your lenese. In hindsight I do not feel that the extra 60mm over the Tamron is much of an advantage and have on occasion wished that I had bought the Tamron as I can see advatages with its smaller size. I have seen pictures taken with the Tamron (karlos78 has one) and it produces fantastic results. One of the Photography magazines has a good write up/comparrison on macro lenses, of course the nikon won

on the original question I hasve a 90mm tamron and am very happy with it - build quality is not an issue as although it does have quite a lot of plastic in the construction you arent going to chuck it about and it certainly isnt tinny like some we migh mention (notably the cosina but lets not go there , again)
the sigma 105 is also a superb lens and i am sure you will be happy with which ever you buy -I'd say go somewhere that has both and try them out on your camera to see which handling you prefer as this is a very personal thing.
