| | | Handycam/ laptop link How can I show images from a recording camcorder (Sony DCR HC19E) on to a laptop in order to enhance the size of the visible screen? Have USB connector lead.
My purpose is to show emerging bats to a large group of people, more than can view the small swing out screen on the Handycam. |

| | | Re: Handycam/ laptop link The handycam has got a feature called burn to VCD and you connect by USB to your computer. The problem is that the Sony software (Pixela) might not support the CD drive on the computer and you won't be able to use the features on the handycam such as burn to vcd and burn to dvd. Unfortunately Pixela software is only supported by some cd drives, if you have a Sony vaio computer then you won't encounter any problems.
However as nightshade suggested it is best to use a firewire cable rather than USB. You can buy a firewire card for about £15.
Another method would be to use a video capture card such as Pinnacle or Aver Media.

| | | Re: Handycam/ laptop link Thanks Nightshade and John for the tips. I'll try them all, firewire was also suggested by a chap at work.
The roost contains soprano pipistrelles with good numbers. It's been a scorcher of a day up here in Cumbria so things look good tonight. The walk takes the participants around a castle with a pond. We're hoping to see noctules and Daubentons as well. |

| | | Re: Handycam/ laptop link Got it to work via USB streaming but the actual viewing area on the laptop screen inside Picture Package was about the same size as the camcorder screen.
Filmed 120 Sop pips emerging, also saw noctules, common pip, brown long eared and one myotis.
The big infra red lamp went down but the internal I.R. Sony emitter saved the day as the camera wasn't too far from the roost exit. |

| | | Re: Handycam/ laptop link That's a giant step forward for one who's just about mastered the camera. How to get a clip of miniDV tape onto this forum is a bit like getting to the moon for me at the moment. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
