| | | Don't do it! Everytime I put the camera and big lens on the tripod I say to myself take it off when you move on to a new venue. Sometimes I get tempted to leave it on but thread my hand round the camera strap. It is not worth it!
Today I didn't, I went through a style and must have somehow knocked the quick release plate. The camera hit the ground ....oh yes on a brick or stone of course and dented the hot shoe, luckily the lens and camera still work ok. The pop up flash doesn't pop up any more though but I cannot really see why. As far as I can see the flash was not struck by anything, the damage was purely to the hot shoe which I have managed to straighten and clean. Any ideas anyone?
Jon

I can think of two possibles. Either the electrical connection,( wire/circuit) between camera and flash has been damaged by the bump, or the hinges have been damaged which are next to the hotshoe.
I'm no expert though

Jon | I had a similar problem with my 20d following a bump.
Engineer f-in-law did a little gentle sanding which helped
and he thought a 10th of one mm twist on hinge would be
enough to cause it to stick.
I ended up putting some insulating tape as a tab on
the top and pulling that up when I needed the flash.
