| | | Holly Question I bought a holly bush last spring (Ilex Mes.Blue Angel) and it produced loads of flowers but no berries duing winter. Now it is starting to flower again. I have been told I need a male plant in close proximity to get get berries. So if male and female plant both produce flowers, how can I tell by looking what what sex a holly is? |

Named varieties of holly are only of one sex. According to the RHS database "Blue Angel" is female, so you'll need to get a male variety. Some (not many!) choices here: http://www.rhs.org.uk/rhsplantselect...rchesID=967419

thunder | You're right about bizarre names of Holly cultivars- I reckon they were named on April 1st or somebody who'd had too much of the amber nectar. Most garden centres tell you which are male or female. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
