| | | Re: How about this for a wildlife garden? Be careful what you put in, that's all I can say. I planted up my wildlife friendly garden a few years ago and now it is an overgrown mess. The plants are uncontrollable in some places and growing quicker than I can be bothered to contain them. |

| | | Re: How about this for a wildlife garden? There is only one way to get rid of Mares-tail and many object to the mushroom clouds. Dock seed has been shown to remain viable for over 80 years. The old farming saying to farm ahead of your weeds, keep a crop going ahead of what is going to cause you problems, that is a little optomistic. Big crop of potatoes and all the work it involves can help.

| | | Re: How about this for a wildlife garden? The soil (from what I can tell so far) looks very good. As has been said our main task is to keep on top of the weeds. Even growing green manure crops should help. Mare's Tail does keep cropping up in my own garden after 17 years but I can spot it and it is easy to pull out. Not so easy in a 80 foot plot! Thanks for all your interest and advice. |

| | | Re: How about this for a wildlife garden? I did forgot to say that we will not be getting a rotavator at this stage. I've heard if you use them too soon they chop the weed roots into many more. We'll uncover what is under the plastic and dig out as many of the bigger roots as we can. Pity it has rained so far all weekend! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
