| | | Where to get logs for a log pile? I'm having a bit of trouble sourcing logs for a wildlife log pile. I'd like them to be roughly 10cm to 20cm in diameter and at least 30cm long. They also need to have their bark on and be hardwood. Does anyone have an idea where I can get that either online or somewhere near York or Falmouth? Cheers! |

| | | Re: Where to get logs for a log pile? I see no reason to exclude conifer logs - various fungi and insects feed on them as well. And I wouldn't have thought you'd really want to buy decent wood just to let it rot down. You really want to scavenge some suitable wood from somewhere where it isn't wanted and it isn't already providing a good home to wildlife. Sorry if that's not very helpful. |

You're much more likely to get leylandii waste wood going spare too.

| | | Re: Where to get logs for a log pile? there are a lot of Woods around York where you could easily scrump some timber, go out after windy weather and on some of the less busy roads you will find quite a bit.
In Falmouth pop along the Helford or over to Flushings and get drift wood, after a few soaks in freshwater to remove the salt it will be fine in the pile
