It really depends on the nature of the system you are operating and the kind of material that is in the compost.
If you have a lot of fibrous dry material - fallen leaves, dried grass etc, then adding nitrogen (the important bit in urine) may assist aerobic bacteria to continue to be active when the readily available nitrogen in the compost material has been used up.
However, if the compost includes lots of green material, especially if it is in a closed 'dalek' type bin, has been compacted and is in a cold location, then adding any kind of liquid may simply increase the propensity of the heap to turn sour.
On balance I'd suggest the only really beneficial use of added nitrogen is when the heap is turned to achieve oxygenation, and this is about speeding up the composting process rather than an essential part of the process.
Ultimately it depends what sort of material you want as an end product - a hot dry heap, oxygenated and nitrogen enhanced - will produce a good soil conditioner, but lower in nutrients; a cooler wetter heap will produce a more soil like product which is higher in nutrients, including surprisingly - nitrogen.

| | | Re: pee in compost When we were renovating our house, we had no bathroom for several weeks, and only an outside loo which we used during the day, but for overnight/first thing in the morning wees, we used a bucket. Put all this in our compost bin. Not sure what difference it made to the resulting compost, but I have heard it recommended lots of times. |

| | | Re: pee in compost I used to do this where I lived before and it worked very well and I had fantastic compost. It was something a friend told me they did where she was WWOOFing at the time. |

| | | Re: pee in compost we had a communal pot at work in about 1969 (all chaps), we all used it and the boss used to take it home every few weeks and put onto his garden, pretty good flowers and veg, but I never ate there...................
Cheers
