| | | plan your wildlife garden now While the weather is miserable and the wildlife scarce, get online and look for the seed and plants to improve your gardens attractivness to wildlife
It does not matter much wether you have acres or just a bin park, grow something, plant something. If every member and guest on this forum planted
(for instance) a buddleiha in the garden in a pot or container to screen their dustbin, hung a basket of nectar producing plants on a wall, ran a small dividing hedge of 6 or more native hazel, alder, field -maple,hawthorn,persuaded a friend or neighbour to do the same we would have created at least 535 extra breathing spaces to make our own nature reserve
A survey I reported earlier this year shows, people in Sheffield had provided,
a veritable forest of 360000 garden trees,25000 ponds,45000 nest boxes,50000 compost heaps every little helps native hedging bought now as bare root plants costs very little, a group purchase, friends neighbours, may be worthwhile and will give pleasure and habitat for many creatures for many years |

| | | Re: plan your wildlife garden now i do try to persuede my parent to let me have a wildlife garden but they like there nice tidy cottage garden?!
i have manage to get in some particularly beneficial shrubs and perenials, a bit of lawn that is stacked with bulbs but not quite the meadow i wanted, and some quiet corners with rotting vegetaion, log piles and stones.
i cant wait to have my own garden - but the neighors may complain if they think itstoo wild!

| | | Re: plan your wildlife garden now it sounds as if you may have it about right,a meadow seems to work only on a fairly large scale on poor soil,a cottage garden if planted right is very attractive to insects that bring in birds and if you are very blessed bats
it also looks great

| | | Re: plan your wildlife garden now Tubs, and containers, fill and plant them in the final location, they can be very heavy, use fiberous material and a good john innes mix 25-75 ratio making sure you have good bottom drainage.Add a handful of bonemeal, wear gloves wash your hands,
add vermiculite or other water retaining medium.
If you only grow one small tree it is one more than there was before!

| | | Re: plan your wildlife garden now You can buy tubs, bins, even hot water tanks fairly cheaply at £1.00 shops,
and diy superstores garden centres usually have bargins at this time of the year
Paint them, decorate them, incorporate them, everyone must have room for one
