| | | Worried about my pond I was doing some pond maintenance today and while thinning out the oxygenating plants I found half a squirrel The pond is quite small so I can reach the bottom from the edges and was able to check that no other bits remained.
The process of removal released quite a smell and I was concerened about the fact that a lot of pollution would have been released into the pond. I bailed about a third of the water out and then topped up from the water butt (not sure if this was a good idea or not).
I hope the pond will recover and just wondered if anyone has any ideas how I can help it along or should I just leave it and hope for the best?
As to how the squirrel got in there we saw evidence a while back of a squirrel being attacked (bits of tail) so I can only assume fox?

| | | Re: Worried about my pond Not sure what else you can do is it purely a wildlife pond or have you got fish in it..
If there is no oily substance on the top then maybe there is no long term damage done.
If it was me I would do nothing more and keep an eye on it you have done what I would have done. |

| | | Re: Worried about my pond I wouldn't be too concerned. If you think of the organisms that die and decay in a pond half a squrrel won't do any harm. We had a fox dead in ours once and it was fine....until we got a leak that is!

| | | Re: Worried about my pond Thanks everyone that's very reassuring.
Kayleigh, it's purely a wildlife pond so no fish to worry about. There's nothing on the surface, it's just settling down as it's a bit murky due to the disturbance.
Thanks again.
