As I replied on the other thread, I'll be joining you - I kept some seeds from last year, don't know if they'll be OK though. |

| | | Re: WAB Tallest Sunflower Competition 2010 Ah! I wondered if this thread would be kicking off again this year!
I shall opt out this time....I really don't think my soil (heavy clay) is the most suitable for these bonny, happy looking plants! Also, I hear they do not like salty conditions (I am close to the sea) and not only that, it's always windy here!
But! I shall watch your efforts with great interest! Jennie, I also kept some seeds from last year, currently they are hanging up in a bag in the rabbit shed, I think it's about time I admitted defeat and let the rabbits eat them!

| | | Re: WAB Tallest Sunflower Competition 2010 What a shame for you Dutchess have you tried growing one in a large pot against a wall always worth a try?
Had to transplant mine out today into the garden to give me room in the greenhouse so I could get My tomato`s and cucumbers p[lanted in the ground inside ,but were they are they are sheltered from any late frosts and have kept a few as spares just incase for out the front again this year.

| | | Re: WAB Tallest Sunflower Competition 2010 I kept seeds from last year and so far only one has sprouted It's about 2" tall at present so I may not be a contender for 'tallest sunflower' just yet. will let you know as it progresses. |

| | | Re: WAB Tallest Sunflower Competition 2010 Just been hit a bit of a blow for this year ,the council have finally decided to insulate the houses.
But instead of cavity insulation they are putting up some type of board insulation so they have to take the harling down and put up a thick 150mm insultating board then re harl the walls so they have to put up scaffolding ,it will take approx 3 weeks from start to finish no start date giving yet so have been told all planting at front of house to be removed.
So no Sunflowers at the front were the sun is all day ,so plants will be in back garden among the trees and shrubs so I will have a challenge this year be nice to see how the do
