Hawthorn Hedge Advice

I have a wild hedge along my drive with hawthorn, lonicera fragrantissima, holly, rosa glauca and yew. It is well established now but I prune it quite a lot every year. I do wish I had been more ruthless with the hawthorn early on so although it looks harsh they respond extremely well to pruning at any stage. In time you will have a beautiful hedge. I also have a 15 foot specimen of Paul's Scarlet in my garden and it is a magnificent tree, it is always full of birds and insects. Good luck with your project.
