Is the hazel likely to misbehave or am I missing the joke (should be blonde!) |

| | | Re: My Wildlife Garden Project Thread snow finally melted this morning! Mum and dad arrived about ten and ten thirty we made a start. Spent about 3 hours in the garden ground was perfect and the hedge is in! Very pleased with how it looks and can't believe what a difference it has made. My mum broke her wrist just before christmas which restricted what she was able to do so she sorted the bog garden which is starting to look fantastic. Although we only worked a few hours we are spent now! And typing this on my mobile internet as we're too tired to put laptop on! We have taken a photo which i'll upload tomorro. Herbaceous border is job for saturday. Off to bed now! Lauren x |

| | | Re: My Wildlife Garden Project Thread I love the wildlife gardening thing. I feel as though I am making an effort with it... although I do try and mix it up with herbs.
Plants I'd recommend:
Purple Coneflower
Gold Splashed Marjoram
Creeping Thyme
Lavender Hidcote
Red Hot Pokers
Delphiniums
Astrantia
Hellebores (Lenten Rose)
Comfrey (careful with this one :P )
Chives
Rosemary
Oriental Poppy
Salvia (Ost Friesland)
Anthemis Kelwaii
Jasmine
Honeysuckle
For the water area:
Ragged Robin
Purple Loosestrife
Marsh Mallow
Water Forget-Me-Not
Water Solder
...obviously not everything will be to your taste, but I have found hte above to be very hard working plants and the vast majority are great for insect life. |

| | | Re: My Wildlife Garden Project Thread Right sorry its been so long! Its been mental here - what with the show season starting soon I am training twice a week and now starting to compete almost every weekend! Anyway, enough jabbling here is a before and after pic before we planted the trees. It is difficult to see the trees you can mainly just see where we have cut away the grass!
Before
After
We've cut a border out to the left of the garden from the patio to the pond which I have filled with herbaceous plants and some herbs. I have some more lavenders, sedums and primroses to plant in another border and have some summer bulbs on the way from gardeners world magazine offer (100 bulbs for £4.45) not sure where to put these yet maybe in pots. Not necessarily a benefit to wildlife to add some colour. Also ordered some helebores and snowdrops.
Enjoy! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
