| | | I've just made a mini meadow! Just goes to show you can do it no matter how small your garden! Mind you, probably a lot of people would think it really messy, but I love it! Am going to try and incorporate some of the more attractive grasses, and things like plantain (I love those!), plus some meadow flowers .. should look quite pretty by next year

| | | Re: I've just made a mini meadow! Since your sward is young you shouldn't find it a problem getting Plantains/meadow flowers to take, a mow in August/September is the time to do this! My only bit of advice is to mow frequently the grassland area frequently the following year to allow the flowers to establish when the grass reaches roughly 8cm high!
Nice to see your doing you bit for wildlife |

| | | Re: I've just made a mini meadow! A lovely idea! Any space is big enough for a meadow, & Jez is right on the mowing- it'll get you far more stunning results that'll last year on year.
I love plantains too, hoary plantain smells lovely as well |

Thanks for the advice on mowing, Jez .. I'm so inclined just to leave it because it looks nice (!), but then it's no good leaving it if its going to spoil that area and swamp the other plants I'm going to grow amongst it.

Well, I never knew that plantains smelled good, metalfish (hoary or otherwise!) ... I shall bend down for a good sniff next time I see them (or when my own ones grow!)
