| | | DIY Window box / garden planter.. I had a play the other day and went to Wickes and bought...
3 length of Garden Decking 3.6mtr each (£7.50ea)
Length of 3x2" timber (£2)
6ft trellis frame (£14)
sheet of 6mm marine type ply board. (14)
And i made 3 of these....
The trellis i broke down after deciding not to use it whole.. The lengths of decking i cut into 4 each....Timber is the legs and the ply the base. I cut and assembled/screwed the lattis as i wanted. They are all 1.6mtrs wide.
these are solid works of brutal art !! The're finished now but unfortunately 2 have been pinched by my sister leaving me with a not-quite-finished-one above
ANY GOOD ?? |

ANY GOOD ?? | Thanks very much Dan, I'm actually laying down a ton of aggregate next week for my mother and was planning to put in a trough, there abouts the same size to fill with shady plants against a back wall and arbour! Now I know where to go to get the materials I'm after!
Cheers

| | | Re: DIY Window box / garden planter.. My one concern about your splendid erections is the possibility that the decking may have some treatment, so perhaps there would be limitations on growing, say, beans in them. My belly has it over the flowers!

My belly has it over the flowers! | Also a concern for me to Phil! Even though I plan to fill mine with plants I'd like to know if the wood is treated against rain and damp soil. I think to play safe I'm going to line mine, stain and varnish! |

| | | Re: DIY Window box / garden planter.. Thanks kayleigh, all shade humus loving perennials going in, it shouldn't dry out to quick due to the lack of sun in the given situ, but don't want it to be waterlogged either so yep a few drainage holes will taken into account! |

| | | Re: DIY Window box / garden planter.. cheers guys interesting info there.
maybe i should have said that the remains of plastic compost bags will be stapled to the wood as a liner -not that it needs it in any way but i want the damp retention and keep the big fat worms in |
