| | Concrete Bags Like Sand Bags but filled with concrete!
During the Summer of 2007 the rain in which we had here forced the stream that runs through what is now Naomi's Garden, to rise so high it came over the road taking the wall with it, which I spent all last Summer fishing out! The only fully intact wall that remains is made up of Concrete bags (around the time of the 1st or 2nd world war at a guess)! So instead of having a wall remade with bricks in her garden I'd prefer to use the concrete bags should any further incidence like the Summer of 2007 occur!
So what I'd like to know is, if these old fashioned built to last bags are still being made and where could I find someone who sells them as I have no joy so far on the internet!
They don't look all too appealing but they have certainly done the job and I'm sure Ivy growing over them will make up for it's lack in charm!
If anyone could come to my aid again, I'd be once again very grateful!!!
Jez

| | | Re: Concrete Bags Hi Jez, if all else fails, you can always make your own by filling suitable bags with a dry concrete mix, and letting them harden in situ, you could probably help them along with a light spraying of water once in place,

Brian. | Thanks for the reply Brian. Are suitable bags readily available, I guess something along the lines of hessian is what I'm after? & yes a light spraying of water to bond them together was what I want to achieve!
Thanks also T2!

Thanks also T2! | you could try one of the larger builders merchants for the bags,
there must be some available as i have seen them filled with sand, holding down the temporary signs they use on roadworks etc,
best of luck.

| | | Re: Concrete Bags Jez, I have five 25kg sized hessian sacks you're welcome to if that would be of any help. The birdseed/peanuts used to be delivered in these sacks until they switched to those plastic sacks. I kept them as I thought they would come in useful some day! Can't think of anything more useful for them than your impending project
PM me your address and I'll gladly post them to you. |

Jez | pleased to be of help Jez,
another source of "free" sandbags are the grass verges after roadworks have been completed,(they are used to weigh down the tempoary road signs, to stop them blowing over) as there always seems to be a few around in my area lying around after completion of the works,
not to sure about the legality of this though, (you could always claim you are cleaning up the enviroment if apprehended )
