| | | Re: Need wildlife hedging ideas pls Thanks to you all for your views on hedging, Im going to nursery this morning where really they have a huge selection of shrubs, trees, and hedging, so I have quite a few things to bear in mind for this small section of border, I will probaly put hedging between the shrubs and keep it pruned every september so it will thicken up nicely, I do have a lot of pyracantha, cotoneaster, japonica, rowan tree, holly, birch trees, and now my new Ilex oak planted around the garden , so I do have plenty diferent trees shrubs etc , so this is why I wanted some hedging between shrubs on the 20 foot piece, I think as paul suggested keep it trimmed, Kayleigh sounds as if your garden boundry is coming along nicely with your array of shrubs etc. Knowing me I will go to garden centre for hedging and come back with a bat box!!!! that wont be a bad thing will it. I will let you know how I got on, ive got my dear little handyman coming to lift for me and plant he will need plenty hot cups today as its cold. catch you all later. thanks sheila

Then I went to hedging section throughtly spoilt there for choice, so I ended up with dog rose, hawthorn, privet ,loads of.!!! then I had to get 2 lleylandi to fill in a gap up the garden I got them at 6 foot so they get a good start nice and bushy.. .Stopped on the way home and got lovely loaf of local bread uhmmmm sooo good, I wanted to eat it on the way home but had to wait, like you do.My handy man got himself some sprouts on stalk, and I got 2 beautiful chelsea buns uhmmm no I know you cant plant them , well we had been looking hard and it makes you hungry dont it . We came home while peter was unloading I got to making the sandwiches, cor they were lovely, chelsea buns for afters , then I thought we better get planting. Got all planted up and in by 4.pm. | | | Re: Need wildlife hedging ideas pls That sounds like my idea of a perfect winter's day, Sheila.
I think my flower border is similar to yours. I planted the back of it up with a mix of hedging plants, in front of that are various flowering shrubs and in front and between them are perennials and wildflowers. All this lot grow into and through each other and although it is early days it is already starting to look good. |
