| | | Watering spring bulbs I am just about to plant some Allium Christophii and tulip bulbs.
My question is should I water them? It's been very frosty for the last few nights when I have gone to feed the birds in the morning it's been 0 to +1deg, the forecast for the next few is more frost. I don't want to damage the bulbs by them freezing over night in wet soil.
Is it pointless planting them if I don't water?

| | | Re: Watering spring bulbs I have lots of bulbs in planters/pots and hanging baskets and never water them this time of year...
They never suffer any ill affects. |

| | | Re: Watering spring bulbs Yep, once stuck in the ground they should be capable of taking care of themselves. They are quite able to cope with being frozen. I hope you get a lovely display next year. |

| | | Re: Watering spring bulbs Thanks all!
All my worry about the bulbs being frozen in ice overnight was unfounded, no frost and plenty of rain - so much for forecasts Not watering was the right thing to do.
The ones I planted ealier in October I have just left to their own devices - it was just the fact these were freshly planted with the risk of freezing. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
