| | | Re: grape vine Say, I didn't know till recently that we could grow grapes outdoors in England. I took a cutting last year off an old grape Vine I found in a friends greenhouse and now have it growing in mine. One of my many forms of employment in Australia was one in a Vinyard. I would prune the vines and sort out the grapes as they grew, then cut them so carefully and box away for export to Japan. I havn't found as good a table grape as them in the shops so far in England. |

| | | Re: grape vine Peaches grew on a sheltered garden wall when I was a child, though what they tasted like is debatable. Figs were successful though and very enjoyable when picked fresh and juicy. |

| | | Re: grape vine The Romans used to have large vineyards in this country. You can still see the old terraces in parts of the Yorkshire Dales, as well as other parts of the country. Of course, they reckon the climate was much warmer in those days ... |

| | | Re: grape vine Kent has several vine yard that I've bought wine from. I remember we were going passed a vine yard on a ramble and someone said that they had a cafe it being a very very hot day we all went in. I notice a sign for wine tasting so went in there. I came out with three bottles and my brother four, we had another four miles to walk. Thankfully the wine was worth it.
I think Surrey has a vine yard or two and the Island here has four. I am so grateful to the Romans!! |

| | | Re: grape vine I used to commute to Avonmouth and looking at the corvids over the cliffs,I
noticed a vineyard not too big but very definitely there
I often wonder about it but never followed it up some things can be such an anticlimax
Fruit-wise,I used to pinch nectarines (the lady of the house always knew),they grew by the gate of a bungalow there was nothing like it in the shops then and I used to take them home for my mum
I have always liked Figs especially fresh with croissants and coffee
My other favourite is the Medlar,I could not eat a badly bruised apple but these odd fruits mmmmm!
Oh gooseberries, the size of golf balls aruddy blush to them warm from the sun
Stop Me!!

| | | Re: grape vine British wine seems expensive and though I applaude their efforts it is not for
me the limited production, rotten weather etc. is really tough on producers, and the end result though not bad at all is for a wealthy minority
