| | | Passion flower question My mother in law gave my a passion flower she had grown from seed when I was in England. Now I am back home and want to know where to plant it.
It is about 8inches tall with lots of foliage.
1. Will it climb by throwing out tendtrils or will it wrap its self around things to secure itself?
2. I have only one space for it if it needs full sun, but it will have to be against a trellis with a honeysuckle - I am worried the passion flower would kill my honeysuckle?
The other place it would be able to climb would be in shade which only gets limited early afternoon sun.
3. Can I plant it out now?
Thanks for any help . |

Thanks for any help . | If it's in a pot you can plat it out now - just water it in well and yes it will need to be in full sun. It climbs via tendrils and it shouldn't kill your honeysuckle - they will just climb together - should look quite pretty! |

| | | Re: Passion flower question We planted one early last Summer on a West facing fence that only gets full sun after midday and it flowered profusely in September through early December, I don't know if this is normal or not.
We cut it back in January and thought it was dead as there were no shoots during May but we left it and it is now around five foot high and four foot wide and we are in central Scotland.

| | | Re: Passion flower question Thanks all for your answers. I will plant it against the trellis with the honeysuckle tomorrow. My worry was I would lose the honeysuckle which is much more beneficial to the insects in my garden. |

| | | Re: Passion flower question Passion flowers have a tendency to send out masses of underground shoots which will pop up all over the place. They are lovely plants but can be very invasive.

Thanks everyone else for your comments -I will have to keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't cause any problems. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
