what is the best food for a hedgehog,the poor wee thing looks starving

Hello outdoors Im not a expert on hogs, you be better if you posted your question on the mammal forum, where more people will see it and you are certain to get the right answers sheila

They love slugs and worms so if you have plenty in your garden then hedgies make great pest control if you don't then it maybe because hedgie is already doing a fine job! Other than that a good substute is dried cat food but not in huge quantity and meat catfood with a high portion of meat content in the sachets try and avoid the fishy stuff though- only if there was slug and lettuce flavour for hoggies the supermarkets would be on to a good thing

There is also a special hedgehog food you can get but i can't remember what it's called and that book is now looked up in a friends shed (i'm on the move!) No daisry products - sure you know that though

My hogs must be fussy eaters as they never took to the dried hog mixture that you can by from pet shops!

I agree Jez, our hog isn't overly keen on the dried hog food. he loves cat food from pouches and cooked chicken tho. As for slugs and worms, haven't seen a slug for years

Good way of using up the food your fussy cats leave then!!! Cat food is prob better for them as it's moist too Certainly tastier then dried ground up insects i imagine

Got the cats sorted now thank goodness, but will only feed the hedgies meat if they look under weight!
