| | | Re: Jez's Spinney Thanks for the vote of confidence Pete!
I'm going to play it safe & add more flower seed of every variety that I have sown, come the Autumn minus the grass!
Give it more of a fighting chance so to speak!

| | | Re: Jez's Spinney How often do you cut the grass?
If you can get fresh yellow rattle seed I would sow ASAP and try to get as much of it growing as you can and of course any other grass parasites eg eyebright local to your area. Once you tame the grasses the flowering plants will start to thrive but it does take time. Hope that helps a little.

| | | Re: Jez's Spinney Hi Barbara,
I have 5 packets of Yellow Rattle but was thinking of waiting until the Autumn to sow in when I do my next cut! I don't think the rattle will flower in time if I sow now??

| | | Re: Jez's Spinney I'd try some now the reason being is it is naturally seeding at the mo. They don't have to flower before the winter but they may be hardy enough to over-winter as small plants and then grow better next year.

I want to grow a few wild flowers in the damp long grass around my pond, what would you recommend. Nothing too tall as it edges the lawn and may look a bit odd.. |

Damp loving plants that require a sunny spot I presume?!?
Meadow Buttercup, Ragged robin, Great Burnet, Betony, Selfheal, Marsh Birdsfoot Trefoil, Snakeshead fritillary, Goats beard & Salify, marsh woundwort, Water Avens, Purple & yellow Loosestrife and perhaps meadow sweet!
Any of those grab you???

yes to damp loving plants that require a sunny spot..
tough enough to stand the dog trampling on them.
I will see what survives the dog.
Thanks for the tips Jez. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
