Pruning sage

I've got some bog standard sage plants which were planted last year. They have done well and put on alot of growth and I was wondering when is the best time to prune them. I don't want to prune them back now if it means that I cut all the flowering stems off and have to wait for another year before they flower.

Help please!

I think they are like lavender you don't cut into old wood. But I may be wrong, I have never pruned mine just taken the odd leaf for cooking.

I have been having a look around on the web and it says not to cut below live growth (which I assume is the same as you have said; old wood) and to prune in early spring. So, snippers out tomorrow then, the sage is getting a a hair cut!
